In Stage 3 of this years Giro d'Italia, a tragedy occured and we lost a great rider and racer, Wouter Weylandt. It always is horrible for anyone to crash, and even worse when it ends like this. Sadly this is one of the risks that comes with doing this dangerous sport called cycling. Luckily these events, within racing situations, are few and far apart. There have only been four fatalities in Giro history. Every rider knows these risks, and we all choose to look past them, or no one would ever be racing in the first place. "If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on." - Lance Armstrong. However it is always sad to loose someone.
I was glad about how they handled the stage following this distaster. Being neutralized and having Leopard Trek ride the front for the last 3k, accompanied by Tyler Farrar.
I give my sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Wouter Weylandt. You will be in the thoughts and prayers of all those who ride and race, or are related to the sport in any form.
